The Town Hall’s Education Department is kicking off an innovative poetry initiative with a conversation this Thursday, September 29th at 7pm between legendary poets Joy Harjo and Mahogany Browne. The conversation theme is Poetry and Musicality, and it serves as an elegant prelude to both our Centennial gala concert: A Tribute to Bob Dylan, on September 30th - and our months-long celebration of Black Poets and Poetry, culminating during Black History Month in February 2023.

This conversation event kicks off an artistic and educational season at The Town Hall that centers poetry and lyrics. In addition to an opera by Laura Kaminsky, the 50th anniversary of Sweet Honey in the Rock, and a concert celebrating the gospel artistry of the Clarke Sisters, Town Hall’s Education Department will center Black Poets and Poetry for its 26th annual Black History Month Celebration, sponsored by Con Edison. This year’s celebration culminates with an on-stage high school student slam, hosted by renowned poet and activist aja monet.
