Benedict Cumberbatch comes to the Town Hall in May, to perform in the highly anticipated New York debut of hit show Letters Live

‘…bringing a handwritten letter to life, no matter how simply as it turns out, sparks endless stories and a spectrum of emotions.” – LA Times

A celebration of the enduring power of the humble letter, Letters Live is a unique night that has been dazzling packed audiences in the UK since it began in 2013.  Its NY premiere is taking place at the historic Town Hall in Midtown, Manhattan and will see a diverse range of exceptional performers reading remarkable letters across these two unique evenings on 18th and 19th of May. Although some names will be announced in the run up to the shows, we never divulge the full cast and both shows will host different line ups.

“Letters Live makes us pause and imagine the lives behind the letters read and the circumstances of their origin. It’s a privilege to read this most ancient of communications live to an audience.”

- Benedict Cumberbatch, Letters Live Co-Producer

Over the years Letters Live has unearthed letters sent by people such as David Bowie, Bette Davis, Mohandas Gandhi, Maya Angelou, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Tom Hanks, Charlotte Bronte, Richard Burton, Katherine Hepburn, James Baldwin and Che Guevara, and placed them in the hands of such luminaries as Benedict Cumberbatch, Carey Mulligan, Elizabeth Banks, Jude Law, Anjelica Huston, Colin Firth, Gillian Anderson, Ian McKellen, Mary J. Blige, Oscar Isaac, Russell Brand, Thandie Newton, Tom Hiddleston, Sally Hawkins, Stephen Fry, Olivia Colman, Sir Ben Kingsley, JJ Abrams, Riz Ahmed, Juliet Stevenson, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kylie Minogue, Danny Huston, Brie Larson, Ian McShane to name a few.

Letters Live is inspired by Shaun Usher’s Letters of Note anthologies and Simon Garfield’s To the Letter.

The result is an event like no other and a truly unforgettable journey through time. Expect the unexpected, safe in the knowledge that Letters Live will make you appreciate the humble letter like never before.

Through these shows two partner charities will be supported - 826NYC, and Entertainment Industry Foundation.
