Join The Town Hall on Monday, May 3rd at 7pm in a special digital event with composer John Kander. Musicologist Dr. James Leve and Broadway by the Year® creator, writer, and host Scott Siegel will join Kander in a conversation about his long and venerated career.

ABOUT THE GUESTS

James Leve is a Professor of Musicology and Coordinator of Music History. He earned his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1998. Leve teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate music history courses, including musical theater and disability and music. His books include a monograph on the Broadway composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb (Yale University Press, 2009) and American Musical Theater (Oxford, 2015). His latest publication, Broadway Babies: Children, Childhood, and Musical Theater (Routledge, 2020), is an essay collection on the construction of childhood in musical theater. He is currently completing Disability and Musical Theater: Dramaturgy, Accommodation, and Access. Leve has also done research on Italian comic opera and published a modern edition and English translation of the 1657 comic opera Il Potestà di Colognole. He has received several awards to support his research, including two Fulbright Fellowships, three NEH Summer Stipends, and an ACLS Fellowship.

 

Scott Siegel has created more than 400 major concerts that have been performed all over the world. He has written/produced/directed concerts for Michael Feinstein, created scores of nightclub acts that have played at major clubs around the globe, but is, perhaps, best known as the creator/writer/director/host of Town Hall's signature series, Broadway by the Year®, which is currently celebrating its 20th critically acclaimed season. The Town Hall brings its history to the public with a series of conversations about the landmark institution’s history. Founded by suffragists, the League for Political Education built The Town Hall. The hall has been a home to adult education, a forum for civic engagement, and a storied musical venue. During this unique and trying time, The Town Hall brings its audience Town Hall please help with a name Series.

The structure of the program is a conversation with the featured guest followed by a live question and answer. The conversations will include images and video, and selected questions from the live audience will appear at the bottom of the live video for all participants to see.
