Program: Schubert: Winterreise, D. 911
Mark Padmore, one of today's most admired tenors, concert artists and Bach interpreters, gained recent international attention for his stunning portrayal of the Evangelist in the St. Matthew Passion with the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle, staged by Peter Sellars, in their historic performances at the Park Avenue Armory. He has been acclaimed for his performances of all three Schubert song cycles in the world's most prestigious concert halls.
Pianist, composer, and writer Ethan Iverson has not only been a frequent partner of Mark Padmore, but also a major figure on the jazz scene. In addition to his concerts with Mark Padmore, he has collaborated with Joshua Redman, Bill Frisell, and the Mark Morris Dance Group; and created a faithful arrangement of Igor Stravinky’s The Rite of Spring and a radical reinvention of Ornette Coleman’s Science Fiction.
The two artists will open their concert with a discussion about Schubert's legendary work.
